In the balance again

THE resurrection of the Jersey International Football Tournament in August remains in the balance.
Organiser Iain Mackenzie says that the situation has not changed since June when talks with a potential sponsor were shelved until the end of next month. Island football supporters have not seen an under-21 international tournament since 2005 when Jersey’s senior team were the victors at Springfield.
Sporting Eventualities director Mackenzie said: ‘Discussions were shelved last June until the end of January so nothing in that respect has changed. ‘What has changed is the current economic climate so it may prove difficult for us to attain sponsorship, we’ll have to wait and see.
‘We can not run a tournament without sponsorship; they are very costly to put on and even if we had three to four thousand paying customers coming through the gates for every game we would still not cover ourselves.’
