Jersey Spartan AC: Boxing Day race and hill climb
Tuesday 30th December 2008, 2:59PM GMT.
JERSEY Spartan Athletic Club members have been busy with a couple of runs over the Christmas period, a 10km on Boxing Day and the annual Bouley Bay hill climb the following day.
Triathete Dan Halksworth won the 10km race in 36 minutes and 24 seconds with Bryce Alsford second. First woman and third overall was 15-year-old Felicity Johnson-Deeley, in 37.59 min. She became the first Jersey female runner to beat Jo Gorrod, in seven years.
University student Tom Brown celebrated his 19th birthday by managing to avoid the customary ‘bumps’ after winning the Jersey Spartan Athletic Club’s Bouley Bay hill climb on Saturday. Brown covered the course, which is just over a mile, in six minutes and ten seconds.
Toby Edwards led the 21 runners over the first part of the hill but after a fast start he misjudged his effort to drop back to place third behind Damian Maher. Jo Gorrod was back on form by being the quickest woman and placing fifth overall.
