Bobsleigh hopefuls head down to Austria
Wednesday 7th January 2009, 2:59PM GMT.
FIVE new bobsleigh recruits will make tracks towards becoming Jersey’s next generation of winter sports stars, having enrolled on an intensive British Army ice training camp in Austria.
Jenny Acton-Phillips, Jessica Lee-Channing, Alex Parkes, Paul Murray and Andrew Truscott travel to Igls this weekend to learn the basics of bobsleigh, luge and skeleton bob.
The squad have been inspired by the successes of NatWest Jersey bobsleigh duo Will Golder and Kevan Crowell, who recently finished eighth in the British Championships in Italy and have since been selected as a development pairing to represent Great Britain at Europa Cup events this year.
Each member of the team has paid £1,000 to attend the camp, though the squad is also being supported by sponsorship from the CA Frazier Group and Condor Ferries.
