As many as ten inter-island bouts could be arranged for an event at Guernsey’s Beau Séjour Leisure Centre on Saturday, 21 February.

Boxers in the islands have given the thumbs up to a possible return of the golden days of Channel Islands championship belts across the weights – which were commonplace over 50 years ago, but which subsequently completely died out at senior, then junior level.

Leonis ABC coach Allan Murray, who is being assisted by Tony Burt, said: ‘Guernsey is looking to revive the Jersey and Guernsey championships from many years ago and we are keen to assist them. I think we could have six or seven inter-island bouts with a couple more of our boxers opposing opponents from Alderney.’
