‘It’s up to us where we finish’
Friday 9th January 2009, 3:00PM GMT.
AS Jersey Rugby Club go into their first match of 2009 against Hayward’s Heath at St Peter tomorrow, coach Ben Harvey is looking for more commitment from a side that should, he believes, be higher in the table.
‘So far this season there’s only been one game we should have lost, and that was against Barnes,’ he said.
‘Every other side we were capable of beating. It’s up to us to see where we can finish in this league although I know that no-one expected us to be so high, midway through the season.
‘The New Year will throw up many more challenges but I would hope that we’ll take a professional approach and compete for promotion. We’re third in the table. We ought to be second.’
Harvey, tough and compromising when it comes to team selection, adds that even his professionals cannot expect to be pencilled in for the 1st XV on a Thursday night.
