‘A tragic accident that was fuelled by alcohol’
Tuesday 13th January 2009, 2:56PM GMT.
THE founder of the Save Jersey Builders Facebook group died from hitting his head while being ejected from a games bar.
Police confirmed yesterday that they were not treating Martyn Yann Roberts’s death as suspicious after Hyper Pitstop manager Andrew Jones placed him in a headlock and ejected him from the premises.
During the scuffle, an inquest heard yesterday, Mr Roberts (28) fell backwards and hit his head. He was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time, and died some hours later at home. Evidence from a number of witnesses was given at Mr Roberts’s inquest yesterday, which heard details of the incident at the Gloucester Street bar on 5 December.
Detective Constable David Turnbull told the inquest, which was heard by Deputy Viscount Peter de Gruchy, that Mr Roberts’s death had been a tragic accident fuelled by alcohol. ‘We came to the conclusion that this was a tragic accident as a result of excessive alcohol consumption over a long period,’ he said.
