Dandara scale down the plan for Westmount flats
Tuesday 13th January 2009, 2:55PM GMT.
DEVELOPERS Dandara have reduced the number of flats planned for Westmount Quarry.
At a ministerial planning meeting last month, plans for the former parish depot and disused quarry at Westmount Road were criticised by senior planner John Nicholson. He said that the plans were cramped, overdeveloped and excessive in height.
The plans, by renowned architect Sir Richard McCormack and local firm Axis Mason, consisted of four blocks of nine to 13 storeys.
This week Dandara Jersey Ltd put in amended plans to provide 196 flats – a reduction of ten flats from their previous application. They also submitted to redesign block A – which was not supported by Environment Minister Freddie Cohen at last month’s meeting. Dandara are still applying for 16 sheltered flats, a 60-bedroom nursing home, a 60-place pre-school nursery, ground-floor artists’ studios and parking for 281 cars.
