You have a very beautiful Island – but the bus service is poor

From Mike Shaughnessy.
I AM a Londoner visiting Jersey for a few weeks who is impressed with this beautiful Island and the nice people who inhabit it. I do, however, have one criticism. The bus service in Jersey is, I am afraid to say, very poor indeed.

This is not a reflection on the bus drivers, who seem to do a very efficient job, but on the infrequency and early finish of the service. Given the problems and expense of car parking in St Helier and the traffic congestion at peak hours, I am sure that if more buses were put on the road, people would use them.

We all know about the dangers of climate change, and much of Jersey is vulnerable to rising tides, so getting people out of their cars and on to public transport would be a small step in the right direction of reducing CO2 emissions too.

as far as a bus services goes London has Transport for London, fortunatley Jersey hasn’t.
The problems with any bus service are, the busues are used on weekdays bettween the hours of 07:00 to 09:00. then bettween the hours of 15:00 to around 19:00. Approxamatiley 1/3 of that capacity being school pupils. anytime in bettween the utilisation is very small. There must be a physical limit to the number of buses. Also at the times bus use is at it heaviest, so does everyone else take thier personal transport onto the road. So you’ll end up pleasing no one.
