Robbers hold woman captive
Monday 26th January 2009, 3:00PM GMT.
A TERRIFIED female bookmaker was attacked and held captive for half an hour by two hooded robbers during a raid on a town betting shop on Friday night.
Police have now launched a manhunt for the two men, who pushed their way into E Coomes Bookmakers, Grands Vaux, as the 40-year-old woman was locking up on her own.
It is believed that the two robbers stole just £30 during the raid because the safe had already been locked. The States police are now warning businesses to ensure that they have good security arrangements in place.
Investigating officers say that the woman was allegedly pushed back into the shop and held there while the men raided the betting shop.
It is understood that the female victim was not injured during the robbery and no weapons are thought to have been used. However, she was left badly shaken. No customers were on the premises at the time, between 9.30 and 9.45 pm. It is believed that the hooded robbers made their getaway in a vehicle that was parked nearby. The woman was examined by a police doctor the following day.
• Anyone who was in the Grands Vaux area at around 9.30 pm on Friday who might have seen anything suspicious is asked to call the Criminal Investigation Department on 612200 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
