Save cash in the credit crisis

Monday 26th January 2009, 2:59PM GMT.

0613369_cropped.jpgFOR the next two weeks the JEP will be helping Islanders to face the credit crisis with a new campaign, More for Your Money.

There will be the chance to win up to £10,000 cash, daily features and advice on money-saving tips, as well as the return of consumer watchdog Fair Play. Advertisers have also teamed up with the JEP to offer readers special savings and discounts, potentially saving Islanders thousands of pounds every day.

Editorially, the JEP will be taking a different subject each day – from the cost of buying food to getting on the property ladder – and digging deep into the issues surrounding it. Consumer champion Fair Play will return with a daily price comparison during these hard times, touching on everything from the cost of getting a student loan and how much lawyers are charging to the return of the petrol price comparison.

And the popular LifeTime feature of the day will give readers a lighter look at saving money, covering everything from how to haggle to tips on servicing your own car. Click here.

The whole campaign will be complemented here on the JEP’s website, www.thisisjersey.com, with readers’ tips and the introduction of cycling enthusiast Arthur Lamy’s blog on the savings which can be made by cycling to work. Click here.

Amazing that in a week we get our tax returns and the reality of 20 means 20 so as to keep our beloved finance industry. The JEP decides to do a spread on how to save money. This is what our Government needs not the public.

With the best will in the world, those who struggle to make ends meet will already be well aware of all the money saving tips. you have so far published and practice them on a daily basis, and I would suspect that the ‘other half’ need not bother too much and will not be going to haggle in the M&S foodstore or turning their heating down a little.

Many people are going to have a great deal less to live on in 2009 because of low rates on their savings. The tax department will receive far less tax.

I have discovered that I can buy a new 32″ LCD television online and have it delivered to Jersey for under £300! I haven’t found any shop locally who can beat that price so far!!!
