A minute’s silence in memory of athlete Jayson Lee, who died suddenly last weekend, was observed by members of the Jersey Spartan Athletic Club at the start of a 10km race yesterday.

Paying tribute to a popular and enthusiastic member of the club, race organiser Dave Woodsford said that Mr Lee had raced this course, from near the old Bal Tabarin site in St Ouen, while pushing his son Kieran in a buggy, in preparation for doing the same in that year’s Hash House Harriers half-marathon – setting a world record in the process.

Members observed a minute’s silence in tribute to Mr Lee – a 38-year-old detective constable with the States Police – whose brother, Bomber, took part in the event.

Mr Lee died on Saturday, 17 January, while playing football at the FB Fields for St John’s Football Club who postponed this weekend’s matches as a mark of respect. Players and officials of other teams observed a minute’s silence before their matches at the weekend.
