A way to battle business blues

However, it will first need more float-building sites to be found. Companies including BHS and Kodak used to enter large exhibits into the parade, battling it out for the Commercial Shield. However, the class has faded away in the past decade due to a lack of interest.

But last year’s Battle saw the seeds of a revival, with the parade including entries from Liberty Wharf and Club 72. Organisers say that they would now like to bring the category back.

Battle chairman Tony Perkins said that there are not enough float-building sheds available, even for long-time entrants, so it would be difficult to encourage more teams to enter until this has been resolved. ‘There are simply not the volume of sheds available for float builders that there once were,’ said Mr Perkins. ‘More and more commercial property is going to building, so what there is still available is at a premium.
