I tried to stop the trial, says former minister

0600780_cropped.jpgTHE Island’s former Health Minister claims that he tried to stop the Hospital manslaughter trial from going ahead on five occasions.

Senator Stuart Syvret says that he approached both lawyers, the police, the Attorney General and the Bailiff to ask them to save Dr Dolores Moyano Ontiveros from having to face trial because of ‘catastrophic failings’ in the Hospital’s management system.

He said that Hospital chiefs pointed the police towards prosecuting Dr Moyano in order to cover up their own mistakes in the appointment, management and subsequent investigation of the doctor.

He even offered to appear in court himself on behalf of Health as he believed that the charge should have been corporate manslaughter against the Hospital.

First the Greenfileds fiasco and now catastrophic failings in the hospitals managemnt system. All whilst Syvret was the minister for H&SS and ultimately, the man in charge.

All very doing the honorable thing after the events have happened, but perhaps if he had been more aware of what was happening within the departments that he was responsible for, some of these things may have been avoided.

This man must never be given any responsibilty for anything again in this island.

Is there nothing in HSS’s past that Syvret hadn’t warned about or tried to prevent? This guy has to be an absolute hero!
Please can someone ask him to write a list of all the issues yet raised which he has tried to stop, prevent, assist? He’s very good at retrospectively saying he tried to ‘prevent’ but not that hot on warning in advance!

He was quoted in the main article as saying that if he was Health Minister at the time, he would not have permitted the trial. The breath-taking arrogance of this pompous individual! I thought it was the Attorney General who decided on trials, not wannabe President Syvret!
