Saturday 31st January 2009, 9:59AM GMT.
THREE of Jersey’s five entrants are still in contention at the National Badminton Championships in Manchester after day one.
They include defending women’s champion Elizabeth Cann (pictured), who is chasing the £1,200 prize – the 50 per cent increase giving parity with the men for the first time – after her second-round victory yesterday evening.
Also through, in the men’s singles, is former international star Mark Constable and Mariana Agathangelou, in the women’s and mixed doubles.
Kim Ashton and Chris Cotilliard were both first- day casualties.
