Hair today, cash tomorrow
Monday 2nd February 2009, 3:00PM GMT.
NEARLY £2,000 was raised for Jersey Hospice when a regular at The Old England pub decided to have his head shaved for charity.
Glyn Thomas grew his hair to nearly shoulder length before having that and his moustache shaved off in a bid to raise the cash.
Explaining his motivation for doing it, he said: ‘I was at a party and some friends had done different things to raise money for Hospice. Somebody bet me to keep my moustache until Christmas to raise some money and it escalated from there.’
The grand total that Mr Thomas raised was £1,798, with a little more cash due to come to him. He said that he wanted to do something for Hospice as one of the regulars at The Old England Pub had throat cancer.
A spokesman for Jersey Hospice said: ‘We would like to say thank you to all at The Old England pub for collecting so much money for us.
‘There has been a real community spirit, with everyone rallying together to raise funds for us in response to the care a friend is receiving.
‘It is great that people are willing to use their imagination and organise various events to support us in this way.’
