Woolworths to be rebranded online
Monday 2nd February 2009, 3:01PM GMT.
WOOLWORTHS is to be reborn as an online retailer after being bought by the Barclay brothers’ Shop Direct Group.
The billionaire twins, who live in Brecqhou, off Sark, bought the Woolworths brand name and its Ladybird childrenswear brand over the weekend.
However, it is thought that only a fraction of the 30,000 staff who were made redundant will get their jobs back.
The Shop Direct Group – the UK’s largest online and home shopping retailer – is expected to relaunch the business later in the year. It is not yet known where the online business will be based or whether any of the 84 former staff from the King Street store will be re-employed by the business.

??? Confused – why would any of the staff be re-employed when this is an on-line venture and not a retail venture.
Shop direct have just anounced 1300 job losses as part of closing down a call centre in Liverpool. Is there going to be a call-centre based in Jersey???

Reg, obvious really. The on-line enterprise will require fulfilment staff, 24/7. Come to the ever obliging Jersey, plc.
