Saxon Banahan to face Ireland again
Wednesday 4th February 2009, 2:59PM GMT.
JERSEY’S Matt Banahan will pick up more international rugby honours and experience with England Saxons this Friday.
The Bath winger, who was the England B side’s top scorer in their triumphant Churchill Cup tournament campaign last summer in North America, will again face Ireland A, this time at Donnybrook, in a fixture televised live by RTE in Ireland at 7.35 pm.
Banahan (22), who trained with the Elite England squad in Portugal last week, returns to the Saxon side despite their impressive 66-0 victory over Portugal last week. And it is an extremely powerful line-up, with six full caps in the side – and the likes of David Strettle only making the bench.
The former Siam Cup player with Jersey RFC will be relying on Danny Cipriani and either Harry Ellis or Paul Hodgson to unleash the Saxons’ back back line – an exciting formation that includes Banahan’s Bath Rugby team-mate Nick Abendanon, London Irish’s Topsy Ojo and Harlequins rising star Jordan Turner-Hall.
