A TEENAGER has beaten over 200 fellow youngsters in a competition to design the T-shirt for this year’s Itex Walk.
Thirteen-year-old Oliver Bale’s design, which shows Itex Walk mascot Charlie trekking around a map of Jersey, will be worn by more than 1,000 walkers for the walk on 20 June.
Oliver will work with The Partnership in St Helier to develop the image into a T-shirt print. The three schools involved in the competition were Samarès, Les Landes and Grainville.
Paul Owen, commercial director of Itex, said that the walk was the largest single-day fund-raising event in Jersey’s community calendar. Most of the cash raised from the event goes to Jersey Mencap, Holidays For Heroes Jersey and Jersey Friends of the Anthony Nolan Trust. A further ten local organisations will also benefit from cash raised.
Mr Owen said: ‘Each year over 1,200 walkers combine a personal challenge with their desire to raise money for deserving causes here. Online registrations have now opened and I would urge as many people as possible to sign up and take part. As well as doing your bit for charity, it is also a lot of fun and a great way to take in our beautiful Island.’
Last year’s walk raised more than £114,000. The walk takes in the coastline of the Island and covers over 48 miles.
