Petition against Ann Court car park
Monday 9th February 2009, 2:59PM GMT.
ALMOST 1,000 people have signed a petition against building an 800-space multi-storey car park at Ann Court.
A Town Residents’ Rejuvenation Association was set up last week to campaign against building the car park and members of the group were in town at the weekend collecting signatures.
Association chairman Laura Storey said that they had 850 signatures and were planning to go into town in the coming weeks.
A number of politicians are also seriously concerned about the car park proposal, and St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft has organised a public meeting this week to discuss St Helier residents’ concerns.

I wouldn’t have bothered if I were you… They won’t listen… They never do…

I think it is time that St. Helier made its own decisions, without interference from the States.

More car parks more cars more disruption. Jersey has dirt cheap parking and fuel compared to UK. taxes should be increased on parking and fuel to subsidize a decent bus service which could decrease the need for more car parking spaces.

car park right bang in the middle of congested St Helier, that will certainly help with population reaching 100,000 if it has not already done so. They are mad. But the petition will not work, look back on the 19,000 plus signatures for NO GST! The only way to win is to over throw the greedy selfish individuals who are in the developers pockets, keep St helier a town NOT a metropolis without a proper transport system. I could go on but why waste my time. To the dogs we go!

Once again the islanders are being ignored by superficial people in the states who dont care as they live out in the sticks with no one bothering them. They would be the first to complain if something was to be built close to them!! Start looking elsewhere if you really are desperate to build another car park, maybe ask Le Masuriers and do a deal with them, they have a big gap ready to be filled. No car park should be built at ann court as too many residential properties are there. Do you really want to de value their properties and also have noise pollution, lack of light?? I thought the island would try to discourage congestion in town?? Or is that they want to assist the sales of Dandara apts to be built which do not have car park spaces for the one bed flats???

Does anyone have a bandwagon I can jump on?
Also Pam, what has this got to do with Dandara flats?
If people don’t want them they wouldn’t sell, simple business logic!

Ann Court is the wrong place for a car park.
Do something with Snow hill! The old railway terminus is just off Queen Street, will not blight the landscape and has direct access to the tunnel transit route .
Too simple for TTS, but a good idea?

agree with you graeme, these people who come up with ideas are all country “not in my backyard” brigade .why should they care about town residents? they should be encouraging less traffic in town not more

Ha Ha ha – another classic reason why decisions shouldn’t be left to the public. Yes the petition is a waste of time – you know why? Because the second highest petition of all time voted for the Town Park 10 years ago! Once it was realised building an underground car park wasn’t viable and Ann Court was the solution no one piped up their concern!
In fact the Constable of St Helier backed the Park and Ann Court development in his last election campaign so those saying “leave the decision to St Helier” new for you… you did when you re-elected Crowcroft.
So is it any wonder the States choose to ignore silly petitions when the public change their mind with their knickers?
