colour-0519108_cropped.jpgJERSEY Rugby Club’s Kern Yates has wasted no time in becoming an England Legend.

Yates, who only turns 35 this Thursday, has immediately been selected for the England over-35s veterans team, organised by the Wooden Spoon Society, to take on Ireland Veterans on 27 February in Dublin.

The former Jersey team captain – he was one of the Island club’s first contracted professionals when he left Bradford to sign in 2006 – qualifies for the honour after having represented England at every level from schoolboy up to U21.

Understandably delighted to be given the opportunity to wear the Red Rose shirt again (the last occasion was in Bordeaux for England Students against France in 1998) Yates said: ‘I’m really looking forward to it – it should be a great weekend. I’ll be playing with the likes of Tim Stimpson and Jon Sleightholme on the Friday, then we’ll be guests for the Six Nations match between Ireland and England the following day.’
