Cann back to winning ways

JERSEY badminton star Elizabeth Cann will contest the final of the European Team Championships with England at Liverpool’s Echo Arena later today.

She got back to winning ways with a vital singles victory in the 3-2 semi-final victory over Poland last night. Cann (pictured) came back from a set down to beat Kamilla Augustyn 11-21, 21-4, 21-9 in 42 minutes.

She lost her quarter-final match against Ukraine’s Larisa Griga, 21-15, 21-19, but had put on a battling show against a player 12 places above her in the world rankings.

England were 2-1 up by that stage and victory was soon achieved in the fourth match with Christopher Adcock and Robert Blair winning the men’s doubles.
