Boxing will miss Reg Gutteridge

Saturday 14th February 2009, 9:59AM GMT.

From Joe Meade.
THE death of Reg Gutteridge (pictured ab-ove), one of the leading sports reporters on boxing, has recently been announced.

His passing leaves a place which will be hard to fill. His visits to Jersey were always a great joy to him and his wife.
His knowledge on his favourite subject was extensive, and he was always a forthright person.

This was reflected in his precise and authoritative manner of reporting. On the many times I have shared his company in various parts of the world, he always spoke well of his visits to Jersey, giving praise to the boxing clubs, which he thought were among the top ones in the ABC.

He always spoke well of the organisers, trainers and the teams. One name he recalled was that of the MC Mick Stephenson, in his control of the events.

I, for one, will sadly give Reg Gutteridge the full ten on his passing.
