Keep drugs out!
Friday 20th February 2009, 3:00PM GMT.
POLICE have warned drug smugglers not to target Jersey after a dealer who tried to flood the Island with £135,000 worth of heroin and cocaine was jailed for eight years.
Johnny Owiny (31) was part of a major London-based drugs enterprise which attempted to import large amounts of the Class A drugs into the Island in June last year.
But he was stopped just hours after arriving in Jersey and was found to be in possession of four small packages of drugs, the Superior Number of the Royal Court heard. Police later found larger amounts of drugs hidden in a van.
The Ugandan national, who has previous convictions in the UK for robbery and possessing a firearm, later admitted that he was guarding the drugs after another man had smuggled them into the Island internally.
The other suspect was arrested but the case against him was later dropped.

It is to be applauded that anybody importing Class A drugs into Jersey gets a most severe sentence, and should send out a clear message to anyone contemplating this that it will not be tolerated here.
The impact drugs have on people’s lives is suffered not only by the user, but their families also and the strongest deterrents should continue to be in place.

Fantastic work yet again by the Police Drugs Squad who seem time and time again to bring in the results. How disappointing though that these evil people continue to target our dear island with their evil and destructive trade. If only our sentences were heavier.

Good news to hear drugs will not be tolerated here.Shame this is just the tip of the iceberg.Keep up the good work.

Keep them out if you value the lives of your young ones and if you want to see your island run safely and respectively.

Which begs the question how much is coming in undetected?

We should get harder on the users. It is them that are prepared to pay the high prices (up to 4 times the cost in UK)that are attracting organised crime dealers to jersey.
Just look at this fellows record, robbery , firearms ! also we have residing at La Moye Warren Curtis who is acknowledged as one the biggest drug barons in the “world”
These despicable people will use plebs like Owiny to do the donkey work (guarding) while they stay outside the frame and use them as cannon fodder to the Police. Another thug like Owiny will soon be found to take the chance for the easy money.
All those bleeding hearts who think the users are victims answer me this. Would hoods such as these be attracted to our island if we did not have users. If the users were punished publicly and severely (zero tolerance)would we have less users.
If property is stolen the receiver (user) is usually punished more severely than the thief (dealer) because he is the one who has made the crime attractive.
Why do we apply double standards when dealing with drugs
