Boxing promoter and Island resident Dennis Hobson thinks he can – and even believes such a phenomenal world title clash could happen on Jersey soil.

Woods’ camp has been knocked back by the Welshman several times before but even Calzaghe’s promoter Frank Warren thinks he’ll make a comeback if the fight and the price is right.

Hobson said: ‘It’s something we’re looking into. I’ve been in touch with Calzaghe’s people but I’ve not heard back from them yet. Another fighter who might be interested is Carl Froch, who’s said he would step up a weight. Clinton’s in a great position at the moment – Chad Dawson [IBF title-holder] was supposed to fight Antonio Tarver next month but he’s pulled out with a hand injury, so I think the IBF will put pressure on him if he can’t fight soon, either strip him of the belt or make him relinquish it. So Clinton could end up fighting for a vacant belt.’

Why would any top drawer boxer want to come and fight in Jersey. Given the L’horizon event was black tie and a 5 course meal…not really what you would expect of a potential pre world title fight. Where will you get the box office money? ITV4, I think not.

The efforts to get decent boxing fights to Jersey are commendable but lets not get carried away.

Hobson is having a laugh if he thinks Calzaghe woould even consider a fight with Woods.
