Firms still in fear of employing disabled

0557179_cropped.jpgEMPLOYERS in Jersey are keen to help disabled people in the workplace but are anxious about doing so, according to the Jersey Employers’ Network On Disability.

Writing in JEND’s winter newsletter, chairman Sally Gallichan said that the feedback from last year’s quarterly seminars indicated that employers are fearful about the best ways to help people with disabilities.

‘The problem is not that employers don’t care but that they are anxious about getting involved in something that they have little or no experience of,’ she said.

‘The economic situation both here and globally could easily become an excuse for not making a difference, but JEND very much hope that during 2009 we will continue to work with a growing number of employers in order to make a difference to the quality of life of disabled individuals.’
