Cheshire help with inter-insular plans
Thursday 26th February 2009, 2:58PM GMT.
VISITING netball squad Cheshire have been shocked by the high standard of Jersey netball – losing six of their nine games against Island sides of all ages this weekend.
Jersey Netball Association president Jackie Nelson said the visitors were pleasantly surprised at the strength of Jersey’s netballers and have already agreed to return for a similar fixture next year.
The 58-strong squad were the only one of a number of invited teams who agreed to travel to Jersey on Saturday for a weekend-long schedule of matches at Fort Regent.
It was hoped that Jersey could use the fixture as preparation for their upcoming inter-insular matches, and give selectors a chance to gauge players’ abilities opposite new and varied opposition.
