Not enough pedestrian crossings at schools

Thursday 26th February 2009, 2:57PM GMT.

From Aida de la Herran.
I DON’T understand why, in such a wealthy island, a leader in the finance industry, there seems to be a disregard for pedestrians.

I have never seen so few zebra crossings as in Jersey. Worst of all, there are no zebra crossings around schools. Why is this? Shouldn’t children have priority above all? This is just an accident waiting to happen.

And what about the deadly little island one is meant to stand on (such as the one at the bottom of Wellington Road), waiting for traffic to let us to cross?

And politicians want us to let our children walk to school to avoid traffic congestion . . .
We live within walking distance of the schools, but I shall always drive my children to school until a proper crossing system is in place.

Am I being too cautious? I don’t think so. Maybe the current Transport Minister can do something about this in the near future.
