Mr Powell, who is retiring from the position in September, was announced as the winner of the prestigious honour at the Jersey Enterprise Awards at Fort Regent last night.

Mr Powell was unable to collect the award himself as he is currently representing the Island at a meeting of the Finan-cial Action Task Force in Paris.

Announcing the winner, John Averty, chairman and chief executive of the Guiton Group, said that the judges had ‘an exceptionally strong list of nominees to consider’ for the award, but had concluded that Mr Powell was ‘in a class of his own’.

‘The Island’s international reputation has grown, alongside that of his own, in the financial services industry he has done so much to create, to promote and to protect,’ said Mr Averty.
