The day the world went flipping mad

On Tuesday, people across the Island marked Shrove Tuesday, the last day before Lent, but it wasn’t just traditional pancakes with a squirt of lemon and dusting of sugar that were on the menu.

In the morning, pupils at Mont à l’Abbé School were treated to a pancake demonstration and tasting by Michelin-starred chef Mark Jordan, who is the head chef at the Atlantic Restaurant.

Thanks to the school sponsors, Voisin and Volaw, he spent two hours showing the children how to make the batter and toss the pancakes, before they were allowed to tuck into what may arguably have been Jersey’s tastiest pancakes.

Elsewhere, staff at Ernst & Young kick started their Red Nose Day fundraising with a pancake sale in the office, and around 20 people tested their pancake tossing skills in the Great Pancake Race on the Esplanade, organised by Club 72, to raise money for Help a Jersey Child.
