Individual success for Renouf
Saturday 28th February 2009, 10:01AM GMT.
JERSEY’S Cyril Renouf finished top bowler in the individual standings at the European Team Championships in Cyprus yesterday.
Trailling by a point to Guernsey’s Lucy Beere going into the final day, Renouf snatched top place after a mixed pairs draw and then a singles win.
Guernsey’s Lucy Beere appeared set to win the individual section but it slipped from her grasp as a result of defeats in her final two matches.
Renouf, a former Commonwealth Games bowler, said: ‘I’m delighted, it was certainly not a certainty because I halved my first game in the mixed pairs with Gaynor Thomas so I collected four individual points. I knew I had to win my final singles match to have any chance and fortunately I did.’
