Firms warned of employees stealing data

MORE than half of those who change jobs steal company data when they move.
At a seminar organised by the Chamber of Commerce last week, members of the Island’s business community were warned about risks they should be aware of. They were also warned that the economic downturn could result in more incidents of fraud taking place in Jersey companies.
The seminar, which was held at the Pomme d’Or Hotel, was presented by Damon Greber and Stephen Spybey, managers with Ernst and Young’s Channel Islands’ advisory services team. The team carried out a survey at the end of last year, speaking to 30 senior people from Jersey and Guernsey about their companies’ current practices with regards to risk management.
Mr Spybey said: ‘Finance has now become an everyday topic of conversation. We read about huge numbers every day and don’t get shocked. It’s as if the fog has been lifted – the risks were there before but they were difficult to see. We still can’t see all the risks, but now that the fog has lifted we can definitely see more clearly.’
