Despite three times recovering from a one-goal deficit during normal time away to Didsbury Northern in Manchester, Jersey failed to take some good opportunities in extra-time before losing 3-2 on flicks – after leading 2-0.

It was Jersey’s second defeat in consecutive years at the quarter final stage and that disappointed team manager Bill Aston, who missed the game as a result of a knee injury. Aston said: ‘It’s very disappointing to fall at the same hurdle as last year and really we should have beaten them. Didsbury were the better side in the first half but we turned it round after the break and we were definitely the better team in extra time.

‘We put them under a lot of pressure; we showed fantastic determination by working really hard. We created some good chances too, but unfortunately we couldn’t convert them.’
