Chamber survey reveals resilience of Island firms
Tuesday 10th March 2009, 3:00PM GMT.
THE latest Jersey Chamber of Commerce business confidence survey has shown that Island businessmen and women are taking action aimed specifically at seeing them safely through the recession.
The survey, the results of which were collated at the end of last month, also suggested that the Island economy had, in the first few weeks of the year, fared better than that of the UK.
Chamber commentary on the results said that while there was no reason to be complacent, ‘the relative resilience of the local economy so far does provide some comfort’.
Of the members who were invited to participate in the survey, 28 per cent responded. Of those, 41 per cent said that customers were taking longer to pay bills but only ten per cent reported taking longer to pay their suppliers, compared with a figure of 24 per cent recorded in the latest UK Chambers of Commerce survey.

So, lets get this straight.
The survey uses data taken from just a quarter of participants who say that almost half of their customers are taking longer to pay and the data itself dates back to the first couple of weeks in January.
… and this is supposed to be indicative of the resilience of local businesses?
I wonder what the weather is like on Planet Chamber of Commerce ?
