I am writing to express my absolute disgust at the recent comments about the skatepark.

I think for Senator Paul Routier to lay the blame for vandalism at the feet of those who use the skatepark is frankly unbelievable. Since when did skateboarding also make you a vandal?

And why would the very people who worked extremely hard for six long years to get their much-needed facility jeopardise its future?

Before the skatepark was opened there were complaints about skateboarders in the streets, now they have thier much needed skatepark people are also complaining about this?

I would like to know why, that in other parts of the UK and indeed the world, there are excellent facilities for skateboarders? Why it is taken as a serious sport and given the credibility and backing it deserves?

Yet in Jersey everyone appears to look down on it and indeed tries to thwart every effort made by the Channel Island Skateboarding Association to provide a decent and much-needed skateboarding facility. We should be behind the skatepark and indeed supporting its growth, not trying to shut it down.

It is about time that people should realise that skateboarding is not a crime and support this sport and the skatepark.
