Another blow in these hard times

Monday 16th March 2009, 2:59PM GMT.

From Peter Ward.
THE front-page headline (JEP, 3 March) ‘Health agreement with UK to end next month’, urging Islanders going to the UK to take out health insurance, comes as a blow in such unsettled times. Where is it all going to stop? Money all the time.

Jersey is part of the British Isles and, in perspective, a day in a critical unit there costs around £1,800. We know that the General Hospital have many staff over from the UK on contracts for so many years.

The Island is wealthy and it is a pity that serious problems cannot be sorted out here, but it is OK to build luxury apartments that not everyone can afford.

A member of my family has to go to the UK because of a serious illness and cannot be helped locally, a decent person of a young age. It is soul-destroying for them and people close to them.
Faith and prayer come close to mind for young and old worldwide.
Tax payments should go to health, 100% always – it is common sense.

yes peter, their good at spending money on non-essensial things that most of us don,t want or need, but when it comes to welfare of the island, they are either deaf or don,t want to know.all it would need is put a penny on social security and i,m sure most workers would not mind if it would cover the insurance in uk.also they could cover dental treatment as a sweetener as we all know it cost the earth to visit the dentist.i am going to uk next month, without insurance as we can,t get any due to pre-existing health issue with my husband.unless this is sorted it will be our last trip.
