The Jersey Cricket Board named their new man today ending the long search for a replacement following the resignation in Tanzania last October of former South African Test player Peter Kirsten. Hogan is a qualified teacher and he played for Australia and New South Wales at youth level together with representing NSW’s 2nd XI and NSW Country and he played first grade cricket in Sydney.

More recently the 48-year-old has been head coach at East Albury Cricket Club, since 2002, a club Jersey cricketer and coach Peter Gough played for last winter. Hogan, who is hoping to arrive in the Island this weekend, said: ‘It’s fantastic; I’m very excited about the position and I can’t wait to get to Jersey to start working with the players.

‘I know about your Island because former Jersey captain Matt Hague and I played in the same team in Australia and last winter Peter Gough was here at East Albury where I coach. I’ve been waiting for a work visa for about month and now it’s through I’m delighted.

Do We really need to import a coach from Australia for what is a minority sport? Is he coming alone or is he bringing a family? Does he get a J cat or is the reg of undertakings 5 year rule waived? Is the taxpayer directly or indirectly paying his salary?

Minority Sport??? Only team sport in Jersey that is playing on a world stage be it as a lower level but has the capabilities to play in the World Cup. Not many other team sports can say that now can they?
