Suspect package at post office
Tuesday 17th March 2009, 11:54AM GMT.
Part of St Helier was closed off temporarily this morning after a suspect package was found at the Commercial Street post office.
Both the Broad Street office and Commercial Street collection point were shut and roads closed as an investigation was carried out by the emergency services. The Central Market post office remained open.
The alarm was raised just after 10.30 am when a postal worker reported that powder was escaping from a package. It is understood that the powder was causing irritation to his eyes, but that it turned out to be nothing more than a high-energy drink.
The all-clear was given at about 12.10 pm but the post office did not reopen for business until half an hour later.
