Surprise over border plans
Thursday 19th March 2009, 3:00PM GMT.
PERSONAL details and the travel plans of every Islander could be tracked under Big Brother-style proposals if Jersey adopts the UK’s e-borders scheme.
The proposals have taken Jersey’s Home Affairs Department by surprise. They heard about it in the national media this week before a planned visit to London tomorrow to discuss border issues.
Home Affairs Minister Ian Le Marquand (pictured) has confirmed that Jersey will follow the UK’s e-border system but said that it was ‘too early to say’ what the plans were at this stage and which, if any, details were to be stored.
Tomorrow senior Customs and Immigration officers from Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man travel to the UK to find out how the controversial e-borders plans will affect Islanders.

I did say on another post that we would be followed soon. Big brother is watching you. Look out for ID checks in the streets near you within the next few years. Arr to live in the free world…

Jersey’s eight hundred years of loyalty has now been rewarded by measures such as the ending of reciprocal health treatment for islanders in the UK,punitive university fees, demands for passports upon entry into the UK, demands for our personal financial details and demands by those in parliament, whom do not represent us, for the ending of our financial industry, which was actively encouraged by successive UK governments to bolster sterling; and now a big brother system of detailing every credit card transaction, mobile phone logs and monitoring of travel arrangements, without any consultation. One hopes that Ian Le Marquand will robustly defend the island’s constitutional position. If that fails, it is time for independence.

Looks like the UK is giving us a helping hand towards independence.
I think we’ve upset them a tinny bit!! Ooops.

Maybe the UK government has been listening to the speeches from the Bailiff and the previous and current Chief Ministers about a small island nation forging its own way in the world and decided to take them at face value.

Please don’t blame the British people for these paranoid measures. Since New Labour came to power the people have had no say at all in running the country. We even have a Prime Minister we did not vote for.

This should come as no surprise – our movements are already monitored by C&I as we come and go through the airports and harbours. Arrivals/Departures lists are already reviewed in advance of your respective movement. Well, they monitor the locals at least – if you’re foreign they roll out the red carpet and put on the blinkers as you drag your worldly possessions through the arrivals hall….
I wouldn’t hold out any hope for Le Marquand defending our Fair Isle, I imagine he’s likely a fervent supporter of such a move – ‘keep an eye on ‘em mah boy – ‘soon as they step out of line, we’ll lock them away!’

I wonder what could have upset them ? Maybe it has something to do with the hundreds and hundreds of millions of stamp duty revenues lost to the UK exchequer by virtue of Jersey Property Unit Trusts established here solely to exploit a tax loophole (now closed) in recent years ?

Perhaps we should send senator Perchard over to have a word in Gordon Browns ear.

again just the law abiding citizen having more hurdles to jump through.

Why don’t they just go the whole hog and microchip everyone? They can now use the war on terror as a justification to scare people into being microchipped. By doing this you know everyone’s move and you can control them. Isn’t this what big brother is all about?
Scare people enough and they will do anything to be safe from perceived threats. I don’t think it will be too long before this happens. Then the Bible prophesy will be reality, as people will be marked with the sign of the “beast” on either their head or their right hand.
