Monday 23rd March 2009, 2:59PM GMT.
JERSEY’S Caversham International tennis tournament opened yesterday with the first rounds of the men’s qualifying.
And among the 22 men fighting it out for four places into the main draw was the USA’s Brain Battistone who played with an unusual two-handed racket and a volleyball-style jump serve.
Fourteen matches took place yesterday with seven of the eight seeded players securing their places in the next round.
The only unsuccessful seed was Tomas Zib (Cze) who went down in three sets to Ireland’s James McGee 4-6, 7-6, 6-4.
