I AM amazed that the chief executive of the Waterfront Enterprise Board is ‘earning’ nearly as much as the American President, and that he is ‘regularly offered more – up to five times as much’.

Seeing that we are having to do a bit of belt-tightening maybe we could start with the chief executive of WEB. After all, he will not be out of work for long and, of course, he will get an increase in wages – ‘up to five times as much’.

His job could be taken over by his assistant at a reduced rate. If he does not want it, then I am sure the current economic and job climate would ensure a thousand or more applicants for a salary of, say, £100,000 or even less.
