Doctor ‘failed to diagnose cancer’ that killed patient
Tuesday 24th March 2009, 2:58PM GMT.
AN elderly woman died of cancer after her family’s St Helier GP wrongly diagnosed her as having irritable bowel syndrome, a medical tribunal was told yesterday.
And when the 65-year old’s daughter rang Dr Ian Shenkin to tell him about the correct diagnosis, he was said to be ‘arrogant, offhand and dismissive’, it was claimed.
Dr Shenkin is accused of a catalogue of inappropriate and sloppy work and a number of Islanders are due to give evidence to the hearing in Manchester, which is scheduled to last until next Tuesday
The General Medical Council’s fitness to practise panel will decide whether Dr Ian Shenkin is guilty of misconduct.
