Guthrie given England U21 vice-captaincy
Tuesday 24th March 2009, 2:59PM GMT.
JERSEY Sports Person of the Year Serena Guthrie has been named vice-captain of the England U21 netball squad for the World Youth Championships in the Cook Islands in July.
She will also take on the role in next month’s clash with Jamaica in Malawi in preparation for the championships.
Guthrie, who has also played in England’s senior squad, was named Jersey Sport Council’s Sports Person of the Year at an awards dinner on Friday but was unable to be there because of England U21 trials – at which she learned she would be vice-captain.
Guthrie, who will work alongside captain and fellow Team Bath player Eboni Beckford-Chambers, is said to be delighted with the decision, according to Jersey coach Linda Andrews.
