A wasted opportunity to make money

IT is extremely unfortunate that long-term residents of Ann Court were evicted and now there is some doubt about the end use of the site.
This must raise long-term concerns for the Housing department for its levels of available properties. Sensibly it seems this site will be used from September as a temporary car park.
This at least will bring in some income while the site’s ultimate end use is decided. It is to be hoped that some sort of competitive system of tendering is used if it is to be a multi-storey car park, as spending £23,000,000 seems to be a ridiculously high figure for such a simple construction.
Sadly when the Housing department purchased the Sunshine Hotel (possibly for a sum in excess of its value) they left it idle for over ten years.
When it was evident that, although they had spent large sums of money on drawings and Planning appeals, the project was not going anywhere, local residents suggested they made the site into temporary parking.
At the time it was estimated that the income could be in the region of £60,000 to £80,000 per year. What a wasted opportunity.
