Jersey edged out by Worthing
Wednesday 25th March 2009, 2:58PM GMT.
TWO wins out of three games played in the South East Waterpolo League (West Division) at Les Quennevais at the weekend means that Jersey will finish mid-table in the five-team league.
Following their disappointment at only winning one from four games at Basingstoke in January, their two wins on Saturday, 14-4 against Southampton University and 13-9 against Oxford City almost led to an unprecedented clean sweep on Sunday morning when league leaders Worthing beat them by just one goal, 8-7.
At the end of the first quarter Jersey were 2-3 down, before disaster struck in the second during which time Worthing took their half-time score to 6-2.
‘We pretty much lost it in that one quarter – in the last half we scored five goals to their two,’ explained former president of the Jersey Waterpolo Association Nick Dotter.
