Survey on hotels ‘crucial’
Wednesday 25th March 2009, 3:00PM GMT.
HOTELIERS and guest house owners are being urged to complete a regular survey about future bookings.
The monthly survey was introduced by Jersey Tourism 18 months ago but currently only a quarter of hotels and guest houses are completing them and sending them in.
Jersey Tourism and the Jersey Hospitality Association say that the information would help them to identify problem months and decide the marketing tactics that should be used.
JHA chief executive Gerald Fletcher (pictured) said: ‘This is such an important piece of information gathering, especially in the current economic climate, but it has to be sufficiently robust so that we can make a proper case for additional funding or general support. Without it, our case is weakened and there could be a possible loss of funds and other resources.’

2012 is the year of the London Olympics and to celebrate this great event the Jersey Evening Post, in association with sponsors Ogier is giving all sporting clubs a chance to win a share of £10,000.
With recent significant investment in Jersey’s new and refurbished hotels, Jersey Tourism need to take advantage of positively marketing the fine hotel product the island has to offer British visitors who by tragic necessity are having to be very careful with their dispensable income in these difficult economic times for at least this coming season and beyond. With the continuing strength of the Euro, Mainland Europe simply isn’t attractive to British holidaymakers. The Welsh Tourist Board are spending money on tv commercials and just yesterday the Isle of Man tourist board took a full page advert in the London Metro. We all know the advanced bookings will be down – come on Jersey Tourism start advertising the fine fayre Jersey has to offer. In my opinion this is surely a more “crucial” activity than waiting 18 months for the 83 plus island hotels to fully comply and furnish business on-the-books levels. Let’s catch up with the Jones’s et al – Expedia search figures are up but what is Jersey Tourism doing to make the summer season a success? Mainland Europe advertising to would be a good thing too!
