Scrutiny may open up to video cameras
Thursday 26th March 2009, 2:55PM GMT.
VIDEO cameras will be allowed into Scrutiny hearings as long as Scrutiny panel members and witnesses have three days’ notice, according to the president of the Scrutiny Chairmen’s Committee.
Senator Ben Shenton said that despite the fact that other parliaments around the world did not allow video cameras, he wanted the Scrutiny meetings to be as open as possible.
He was responding to a question from Deputy Bob Hill, who wanted to know whether Senator Shenton had decided to prevent members of the public from filming at Scrutiny hearings.
Senator Shenton said that the whole matter of filming Scrutiny hearings came to light when a member of the public wrote on his blog that he wanted to video one.

The press have codes of practice and are accountable. These bloggers have no accountability and from what I have observed on the web very little in the way of ethics. With the level of open hostility and the appalling standard of many of these blogs it is not right that those coming forward should be subjected to the mercy of these bloggers. Video can be easily changed or manipulated to turn the positive to the negative.
Fear of the bully boy tactics that are now clearly evident in our politics is adding to the general apathy of the population and is rapidly eating away at our democracy. We are being increasingly ruled by the moaners of society and policies are being increasingly swayed by the extremists. If the people of Jersey don’t wake up to this soon they will loose their privileged status of living in a safe affluent society and will really find out what life is like living in a recession torn economy such as the UK or Europe.

It is far too late for scrutiny as the world knows your island is corrupt. I live here in the USA CA. your leader are way out a wack and need a dose of Obamaism… And we here could use some of what Senator Syret has too offer as your island leaders don’t seem to want him around.
