Watson to build on defeat
Friday 27th March 2009, 3:00PM GMT.
GUERNSEY’S Heather Watson has vowed to get stronger after crashing out of the Caversham International tennis tournament at Les Ormes yesterday.
In her first match of the day the 16-year-old was no match for British No 3 Katie O’Brien, who won 6-1, 6-1.
And in the doubles, Watson and partner Naomi Broady were beaten 6-4, 6-1 by fellow Brit Sarah Borwell and her Australian partner Monique Adamczak.
But speaking after the singles defeat, Watson said she would use the experience to build upon. ‘It has been a great experience playing here but I had a very tough match today,’ she said. ‘Katie has obviously been playing a while whereas I am still learning in each game that I play. But I will use the experience of today to get bigger and stronger.’
