Jersey trio on ABA trail

DSC_1503a THREE Island boxers start their Amateur Boxing Association title campaigns in the UK tonight.

Ben Murray (pictured) and Danny Kennedy from Leonis ABC and Ryan Powell of Pisces ABC are in Newquay, Cornwall, this evening for the opening bouts of the Devon, Dorset and Cornwall regional qualiiers.

Murray and Kennedy were both in great form last time out and will be hopeful of progress this evening. Murray, with possibly his last tilt at a national ABA title before turning professional, has a lightweight (under 60 kilo) contest against Ben Zacharhin of the Pilgrim Club, while welterweight Kennedy (under 69k) faces Al Khan.

Ryan Powell, in the under 64k category will face a member of the Bideford Club. He will be accompanied by Pisces’ coach Brian Rousseau, while Tony Burt will be in the corner for the Leonis duo. Leonis’s Dave Thompson travels as an official.
