Top swimmer out of Island Games
Saturday 28th March 2009, 10:00AM GMT.
INJURY has forced one of Jersey’s leading swimmers out of the NatWest Island Games in Aland this summer.
Multi-medallist Simon Le Couilliard has withdrawn as a result of the injuries he suffered following a car crash in Australia where he is training with the City of Perth club.
Le Couilliard, who competed in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006, suffered cracked ribs and whiplash injuries when he was struck by another driver who had driven through a red traffic light.
The 22-year-old is still in pain so he has decided not to compete in Aland and therefore he will miss the opportunity to add to his impressive haul of 18 individual and 18 relay medals won over the past four Island Games.
