Roof blaze at Duhamel Place flats
Monday 30th March 2009, 1:56PM BST.
SIX firefighters took four hours to get a roof blaze under control in St Helier at the weekend.
Occupants of the flat in Duhamel Place had no idea about the fire until firefighters arrived.
The alarm was raised by passers by who saw smoke coming out of the property at 10 am on Saturday.
The Fire and Rescue Service’s Marc Le Cornu said that not one of the three flats in the building had a working smoke alarm and the one alarm that was fitted did not have a battery.
